The National Home Improvement Show plans significant growth for 2011
Sunday, April 17, 2011
Following the phenomenal success of the National Home Improvement Show in October last year, the organisers are planning an even bigger event on 30 September – 2 October 2011. Now in its third year, the event will have 15 per cent more exhibitors, 20 per cent more floor space and a host of new and inspiring zones such as Julia Kendell’s Interiors Pavilion, The Home Entertainment & Technology Zone and The Eco Home Zone.
In 2010, the show attracted over 270 specialist exhibitors from sectors such as kitchens, bathrooms, home electronics, garden, ecological products and flooring with more than 17,000 people attending the show over three days. This was an increase of more than 30 per cent from the previous year and the organisers are anticipating visitor numbers to increase by 20 per cent again for 2011.
Increasing numbers of homeowners are opting for home improvements rather than moving home, according to new research by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Key findings from the research include:
• 48 per cent of chartered surveyor estate agents revealed that the slow market is prompting people to improve their properties rather than move.
• 44 per cent of surveyors reported additional bedrooms were the improvement which added the most value with traditional improvements such as adding a new bathroom or kitchen the next most valuable at 18 per cent.
Michael Seaman, event director for The National Home Improvement Show, attributes the show’s success to its ability to deliver an audience of serious home ‘improvers’ searching for new ways to add space and value to their property.
Mr Seaman says: “The show has a loyal following of affluent homeowners with considerable budgets and imminent projects. They are looking for the latest, innovative products and services rather than just browsing and they are keen to learn how to apply new techniques.”
This year’s celebrity experts include Michael Holmes (Real Homes editor in chief, formerly presenter of ‘I Own Britain’s Best Home’), Julia Kendell (DIY SOS and ITV1’s Daybreak), Matt James (Gardening expert who recently joined ITV’s new gardening show, Love Your Garden) and resident eco expert Charlie Luxton (DIY SOS and Build a new Life in the Country).
The National Home Improvement Show will be held at London’s Earls Court from 30 September – 2 October 2011.
